5th-6th Grade Science: Heaven & Earth
Required Textbooks: God’s Design for Heaven and Earth (Master Books Edition-Student text only)
Course Description: This year the 5th and 6th grade science class will delve into earth and space science. We will discover more about the greatness of our God and his marvelous creation through the study of meteorology, astronomy, and geology. During the first trimester, we will study the atmosphere and oceans of Earth learning what weather is and how the oceans affect our weather systems. The second semester will find us exploring our solar system and the universe with a special emphasis on planets, stars, and the space program. During our final trimester, we will focus on our unique planet, learning about rocks, the Genesis Flood, and the Ice Age.
Classroom Work: Most classes will begin with a review of important scientific terms and concepts and then conclude with a hands-on activity or lab.
Homework: Students will be expected to complete weekly reading and homework assignments. The homework load for a typical week will consist of 8-10 pages of reading, 10-15 questions to answer, a vocabulary quizlet, plus a small graphing project or diagram to draw and label. In addition, students will take one test and complete one small project each trimester.
