Required Textbooks: Language Lessons for a Living Education (grade 5 or 6)

Course Description

Writing: Students have regular writing assignments that align with the textbook. Several weeks will also be spent covering the five paragraph essay, creative writing and a research paper. Feedback is given on writing assignments. Students learn about the MLA format and how to create a Works Cited page. Language Lessons for a Living Education by Masterbooks is also be used. It includes grammar rules and short writing assignments.

Literature: Assigned reading includes a variety of quality classic and modern literature. Weekly literature homework is assigned and discussed during class. There is also additional optional reading assignments for prizes!

Classroom Work: Writing Instruction, review games, discussion of literature, projects, end of the year presentation and paper on a historical figures.

Homework: There are weekly writing and literature assignments. Students should come to class prepared to participate in literature discussions and to read their writing assignments to the class. There are occasional book reports, projects and quizzes.
